What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a structured treatment program that helps individuals resolve addiction, depression, eating disorders, as well as other dependencies that do not need medically-supervised detoxification. This program requires you to visit the treatment center three to five times a week, with each session lasting up to four hours. IOP can be an ideal option for those with less severe addictions, have a high level of commitment to sobriety, and have a strong support system at home.
Many clients choose to receive outpatient care as they can return home after each session and continue engaging in their personal lives. This treatment aims to establish support mechanisms, develop enhanced self-awareness, aid in relapse prevention, and learn coping strategies. Services offered in the intensive outpatient program may include individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, nutritional management, wellness services, and medical management.
Individuals who apply for admission to an IOP are carefully evaluated to determine the type of care they will require. The severity and duration of their condition or addiction, their stressors, as well as their proximity to the facility are some of the factors considered when coming up with a decision.
